I have been SO busy lately trying to get things done, that I have not been able to catch up on the blog. Sorry about that. I have all the notes in my notepad, so I will go back and get caught up.

Want to sent a big congrats to my training partner and 29er Crew teammate Marcee for her kick butt performance in the Cohutta 65 mile race last weekend! She broke her nose at work on Thursday (no not kidding), and then she rocked a second place finish on Saturday! 12,500 feet of vertical in under 6 hours! Smokin!! I am so proud of you!!

I have been riding quite a bit now that the weather has changed. Later night rides are possible in just the regular jersey now. Perfect! Heck we have even seen some 90 degree days. Sweet!

Work has been overly stressful lately, as I am filling in for my supervisor who is on paternity leave. Leading the department for six weeks has a huge learning curve, and I am really struggling to keep all the water in the glass. :)

Race season really starts to pick up now, and that is a GREAT thing! I will be heading to Athens, GA tomorrow for race number 2 in the Dirty Spokes series. Course sounds like fun, and the weather looks near perfect. I am pretty stoked to be going!

Also, the Tour de Cure is a little over a month away. New route, new destination, new rest stops, new finish line party... the works. The ride is struggling a little bit with the economy, but hopefully the last month with see a turn around. We have the riders (over 280 so far already), but the funds are a little low. We'll see how it progresses in the next few weeks. If you are going to be in town, or live local, take a second and join the Type1Rider / Cycling Spoken Here TdC Team at:

http://main.diabetes.org/site/TR/TourdeCure/TDC154358030?team_id=324103&pg=team&fr_id=5583

I will be doing updates via the iPhone for the next couple of days. I will get the missing blog entries up soon, and well as finish the Warrior Creek race report.

Will miss a bunch of you are TCOYD conference this weekend, have a great time!

I also wanted to thank all my great friends and team mates that provide so much to allow me to go racing. I cannot adequately express my gratitude for all the support shown by Marcee, Steve at CSH, the crew at the UNC Diabetes Care Center, and Travis at Fisher Bikes. You all make it possible for me to do what I do.

Endurance racing as a Type 1 diabetic is fairly difficult and complicated, but the help from my friends make is so much easier.

Thank You!

While just about every single member of the 29er Crew was out in Cohutta today, I was attending the Trek Demo Day at Lake Crabtree County Park before doing a couple of hours of work.

The Demo was cool, and was extremely well attended. A lot of folks took out a 29er, and I spent the time riding with them and talking to them about 29ers. Met some great folks, and had a blast.

BG was a little nuts, since it was ride, then stop. Ride. Stop. Ride, ride fast, stop.

Once the Demo was packing in I did go to RR for two quick loops before heading home to see my boys!

Been really trying to figure out how I can get to DESA in Boston. It has been on the forefront of my mind. I have been invited to be part of the Ask the Jocks panel on the last day, and asked to lead a ride or two. Was all setup when Cozmo was around, but now it isn't quite as easy. Need to think this through.

Had a appointment with the endo at the UNC Diabetes Care center today. A1C is a 6.1 again. Not bad.

Got out again on the single speed after work. Not for long, but just a perfect ride Man, this bike is just a joy to ride. Trails where 99.5% dry, and should be perfect for the weekend. Yeah!

Had a short time after work between two HUGE storm systems to go and get some mileage in. On the Superfly SS and out as soon as the rain from the first one stopped. Temps where good, but dang... running water everywhere. No single track, just the ever popular double track and greenways around Chapel Hill. By now I think the single speed can get around this route by itself. :)

Work has been tough these past couple of weeks, as the department senior manager is out for paternity leave and I am filling in. Its been pretty stressful as I try to pick up those extra duties, and get up to speed in standing meetings. Between that, and the stress about the Cozmo sponsorship deal it is making me exhausted.

Of course I can't sleep at night, as my mind is jetting all over the place. Just need sometime to get my arms around it and get in the in new groove.

I need to hang in there and be patient until it all comes together.

Busy weekend coming up..... then the race season hits overdrive.

Something I don't day that much... I headed out for a road ride today.... on the Superfly. My road bike is in work, and it is wet and raining so I used the mtb to put in a little time.

Was planning on a longer ride, but, truthfully, just didn't feel into it after about 90 minutes. Been really tired lately, and I think the best thing to do is just pack it in for the day.

Was out of the office a little early today - we had TONS going on. Little man had a doctor appointment and big man had a Spring Fling celebration. Weather was sunny and in the 60s (man I LOVE NC), and I was able to get out on the Superfly SS by 16:30.

Spent 3 hours doing some hill work and riding some DRY (can you believe it) single track. Had a lot of fun, and it felt like the first real ride of spring. Always a good thing. :)

New road bike is nearing completion, so I should be seeing it as shipped next week sometime. Haven't discussed the road bike much... but it is custom and it is steel. More to follow.

What a great day today was. Just perfect. Of from work tomorrow and Sunday, so if the weather holds out should be able to get some good ride time in. Maybe?

Up this morning early to get over to the Carrboro Classic
duathlon.
Blood Glucose is 310. So that means a couple of things. I didn't do a
great job bolusing for late post race meal. Also, dropped my temp
basal too far for too long.
Overdue for a site change, so switched to the backup site I inserted
yesterday.
Need to watch sensitivity today. Will surely be elevated.
I'm a little stiff and sore today, but i would expect that. Planned
recovery ride sometime after lunch - on a geared bike even. :).
Recovery ride was GREAT!! Just road the Superfly around on the road. Nice and easy.

Raced at the 6 Hours of Warrior Creek in North Wilkesboro, NC today. Posted via the iPhone on the fly. Below is the last mobile post of the day, and the link to the race details is above.

BG is 123. I am calling it a day, and hope I haven't chased the post
race highs to hard.

I did eat some quality protein, and some fats for dinner. Hopefully,
this will help keep me from going low over night.

I set my pump basal rate to a 40% reduction for 7 hours.

Heck, might be 400 by morning. :). Let's hope not. Post race lows come
FAST, and take a little longer to recover from.

After arriving at the Warrior Creek race site, I still had one big question on my mind that needed to be answered.
To single speed or not to single speed.

After getting the tent setup in a strategic location for the rest of the incoming 29er Crew and Fisher Bikes crowd, I sat down and began to ponder the question.

My goal for the day was just to get in a high quality training day, and have some fun riding these spectacular trails.  Along that line I went with the Superfly Single Speed that I have brought along.  I left my geared Superfly in the tent.

When others began arriving, they asked why my number was on the single speed.  When I told them, they laughed.  "Have you ever ridden these trails before, Tony?".  No, I answered.  "Ohhhhh...." they would reply.  "They are PERFECT for a single speed.  What gear ratio are you running?"  When I responded with 34/17 a evil laugh would emit from their souls.    Uh oh.

Turned out not to be all that bad, with only 2000 vertical feet per 9+ mile loop.  Super fun, amazingly flowing trail that kept you interested the whole time.  The legs did start to get tired as the hours clicked on, but I had a wonderful time.

Blood glucose was perfect all day.  The continious monitor was a gigantic help.

Top 5 things heard at the 6 Hours of Warrior Creek:

1) Where is my Superfly?  No really.  Where the heck is it?

2) Nice Blinglespeed!

3) Did anyone see a pig on the back side of the course?

4) Man, those dogs are freaking me out!

5) Dude this trail is as flat as your driveway.  Really it is.

Brief Race Wrap

Race is over, and I am WORKED. Raced single speed class, and put in 4
laps.

Each lap was 11 miles in length, and approx. 2000ft of elevation change.

So 44 miles with 8000 feet over vertical in 6 hours.

BG ran between 105-138 during the race itself. Post race it is
starting to trend higher, which is not unexpected.

I am a little bit nauseous, so don't want to eat anything. Need to
watch that I don't over correct and go low.

Was going to visit friends at post race gathering, but want to try to
get home before the boys go to bed.

I'm out.

Car is all packed, and bikes are ready to roll. Going to eat and go to bed pretty soon.

Spoke to Cricket, and she was on her way up to Warrior Creek already. She says there is a boat load of climbing up there, so it should be a great training day.

I am rolling with the single speed and the Superfly, and will determine which class I feel like riding in when I get there. Weather looks GREAT for tomorrow with 70 degrees and sunny.

It did rain pretty hard the past two days though, so the course will be a little slick. If I get there early enough, I will ride some of the course to scope it out. The SS will be soooo much better in the goo. :)

We will know a fair number of folks there, so I am really looking forward to it!

I'm pretty tired, so let me grab my maps, some grub, and some sleep.

I have a 6 hour event coming up this Saturday in Wilkesboro, NC (I think). Looks like rain for the next two days as well. Not sure what the course is like, as I have ridden in the area but never on this course.

Will more than likely use this race as a hard training day, and ride the single speed. I can't wait!!
