Can feel the beginning of a cold coming on. :( I have been on antibotics for 48 hours to ward off the strep throat I was exposed to, but I must have caught something else at the doctor's office.
The USA Cycling Southeast Regional Championships are next week in Charlotte, so I am hoping to get some good training time in this holiday weekend. Might have to cut that a little short if I am feeling a bit under the weather.

On the Single Speed in the rain for over two hours tonight. Man it poured AGAIN!!
On the flip side, I am looking at some "updates" for 2009. I have been considering getting a new trail bike, and have really come to dig the new 2009 Trek Fuel EX 9.8.

So I asked to have my name added to the order list for one. Would like to get one sooner than later. More details to follow, but man these are hot!
Saw a bunch of photos from Trek World, and Trek Bicycles have taken the gloves off this year. MAJOR updates to almost every model and line. Belt driven single speed road bike, dozens of cruisers, and carbon framed mountain bikes everywhere. Also, look for a collection of cool accessories and clothes and shoes from Bontrager.
More to follow...

Nice day for a long ride!! Jammed out of the Top Fuel at 09:22, after setting a temp basal rate of a 55% reduction about an hour earlier.

Stayed at the local trail system, and had fun. Met some friends out there that I haven't ridden with in a long while. It was GREAT to see and ride with them. Really, what cycling is all about - having fun while getting some fresh air and exercise.

Was going through some old stored digital images, and found a couple from the DESA conference back in May 2005. I took these right after the awards dinner when I was forming the idea of the Type1Rider organization. So about an hour later, I was on the pc registering domain names and purchasing some hosting space. The rest, as they say, is history....

You know a diabetic is staying alone in unfamiliar surroundings by the bag of gummi bears on the dresser. :)

Got out today after work on the Kona 29er SS. Didn't get out until late, and set a temp basal rate of a 55% reduction at 18:54. Was out on the bike 55 minutes later.
Just as I was heading out, it started to drizzle. This drizzle turned into a DOWNPOUR within 5 minutes. I stayed off the trails and just road hill repeats on flooded streets for 1:41 instead.
Thank goodness the Cozmo is waterproof.
Was a decent ride, although riding soaping wet gets old pretty quick. :) Makes the bibs feel like an old dish towel.

Feeling pretty good. A little sore, but not too bad considering. I am feeling pretty amped about how I did, and am looking forward to the next event.
On another note, Type1Rider has a lot of coals in the fire and I will hopefully be able to make some announcements over the next few weeks. Its been a great month for sure!!

Took half a day off today to get packed for the 18 Hours on The Farm race tomorrow. Looked over the spare parts (had to pull some off the Intense) and gear list, and went to the grocery store to pick up some things to eat.
A lot of folks don't like doing the preperation, but it doesn't bother me. Kind of keeps me occupied so I am not constantly thinking about the race.
I am really looking forward to having a support crew for this one. George and Sara will be serving it up during the event! I am a little worried about George going in a support function... I think he might have a melt down if he isn't actually racing. :) It will be AWESOME to have them there.
Also found out that there will be some folks there that we used to hang with over 3 years ago. I haven't seen Mal of Wayland in a LONG time, and it will be good to see them. Hopefully I will have a chance to talk with them for a couple of minutes. :)
I'll post as soon as I can post race.....

Out on the SS 29er today for one last training effort level ride before racing next weekend. Set the pump down to a 55% reduction at 8:21 in hopes of being out by 09:30. I got started a little late, but was finally rolling out of the Wellness Center parking lot by 09:41. (Actually, not the WC parking lot as their sprint tri was going on. Parked at the business right near by).
Weather was raining on and off during the day, so I just hit the double track at the local CHHS trail system I usually train on. Included some of the hill repeat course, and did two big loops of the combo route with a trip back at the car at the 2 hour mark for water and food refill.
Kept the normal fueling and hydration technique and everything ran smooth. 2 PowerBar Gels per hour, and approx 16oz of H2O.

I did lower my basal rate to the traditional 20% reduction for 6 hours when I went to bed.

Had a nice time, saw some interesting things, and took in some great weather!

Hopped in the car and drove home a little after lunch.
Only a week until the Scouts Honor 18hrs on the Farm Race, so one last big saddle day planned for tomorrow.

Set my basal rate to my normal < 5 hour ride rate of a 55% reduction at 12:59 for a 14:00 ride start time. Weather was threating rain, so I just jumped on the single speed. (BTW - I was able to get the brake mount on the fork leg untwisted via some HUGE channel log pliers. Not ideal, but hey... the brake calipers are now lined up "mostly" with the disc rotor).
Just a nice base paced ride today. Stayed on a slightly lower fueling plan of only 1 PowerBar Gel per hour. BG very great, and the ride was very fun!

After yesterday's ride, I felt pretty good. Much better than I felt early Saturday morning. :)

First day back on the bike after Wilderness. I felt very unlike myself until yesterday. I really put in a huge effort last Saturday. Time to get back to work.
Today's ride was just going to be a long slow distance affair. K and I met some others at a local trail system that we don't get to ride that often. I set my basal rate down to a 55% reduction at 08:24 to prepare for a 9:00 start time (yeah, a little later than normal).
Ride started at 09:18, and I was rolling on the Top Fuel 69er. I put a new Fizik Gobi XM saddle on it during this past week, and I was looking forward to seeing how it felt.
About 90 minutes into the ride, we broke into smaller groups so some could head for home. Pace was VERY low up to this point, and between the correction in the morning and the too low basal reduction I was running very high. I bolused at 10:57 and set my basal rate back to normal for about an hour to correct.
Couldn't re-hookup with the rest of the group, so I finished up by myself. That was ok, as I was able to bring the pace up a little and ride a couple of the loops that I really like.
Basal rate changed back to normal rate at 13:59. BG was at 77. Not bad considering that I wasn't fueling due to the high mid ride.

Saddle worked great, and I felt much better when I was done than when I started. Nice to have a great fun ride with some friends.
I did set my basal rate to a 20% reduction for 6 hours at bedtime as I normally do after ride days.
