Build out phase 1 complete. Taking it out today for a couple of hours for our first ride together. :)

New hoops and tires are in route, and I haven't set this set up tubeless yet. Where did I put those spare 29er tubes....

Thanks so much again to Trek Bicycles of Raleigh, Crankbrothers, and Trek Bicycles.

Carbor armor underneath:

First though, a little bit of strength training.... An excuse to let the temp come up 5 more degrees. :)

A HUGE thank you to Jeff, Dave, and Ryan at Trek Bicycles of Raleigh for this early Christmas gift. I really cannot express how much I appreciate it.

Swapped to a temp longer stem just so I could go for a ride/race with J. :) I STILL can't beat him.

Hope to get sine quality time on it this weekend. Very quick first impressions:

The 2x10 drivetrain is so unbelievably sweet. Gear changes are instant, especially up front. I mean, they feel 3x faster then the X0 3x9 of last year.

X0 brakes are amazing. Feel more positive than the Elixer's of last year. Of course break to come.

Didn't ride it long. All next week off, and I can't WAIT!!

Hope to have it more setup (tubeless, diff tires, I9s, etc) by next week.

Integrated chain stay protector is a nice touch. Same as the carbon armor on the down tube. All the RXL lettering is blacked out - wheels, seatpost, stem, etc. The saddle looks like it might be a winner to. Similar to my Evolve road saddle I love.

It still always makes me so excited to get a bike. Nothing - NOTHING - better.

Man, it has been a really rough 2 weeks.  Not going to lie to you... rough.  Not on the bike, diabetes care, or with the family.  That stuff seems to be ok - as ok as possible given the rest of it.  Just everything else outside of it in general.

Work has been particularly un-enjoyable. I am VERY thankful to be employed, don't get me wrong.  However, it is has been really drab lately.

I think it is probably a bunch of things affecting my mood and attitude.  Days are getting shorter, weather is cooler, somethings are HECTIC, and yet others are at a standstill. The important things are at a standstill.

I'm struggling.  A lot.

Just gotta keep on plugging along.  The winds are going to change sometime.  Soon.  I hope.  Please.

Was able to get out on the 2009 Superfly Single Speed tonight for a ride with some folks fairly new to trail riding.  It was SO much fun to leave the training plan at home, and just watch and listen to these riders experience something new.  When I got done I remember thinking to myself that I hadn't had that much fun on bike in a long time.  A long time.

The irony wasn't lost on me either, that this was probably my last ride on my FAVORITE bike.  So it should have been exactly like it was, not a race or a training ride, or anything like that.  I damaged the carbon not to long ago, and it is time to hang this frame up.  Not getting rid of it.. oh no.  Just leaving it dirty and placing in on the wall.  TPG was able to find this bike for me, and the story behind it was really lead to us becoming close friends.  So this frame will be with me probably for the rest of my life.  Just can't let it go.

It's replacement is cool, and I need to give huge props and a hug to Dave at Trek of Raleigh for all the hard work in aquiring it.  I just love those guys.

Have to make some repairs to the components on the current bike before I can get this one built.  Some broken spokes and stripped crank bolts (if I remember right). So hopefully sometime next week I can roll on it.

One of my favorite people in the world (heck one of everyone's favorite) Jacey is getting married this Saturday.

Congratulations Jacey and Aaron!! I hope you have a wonderful day, and life time of joy and happiness!!

Today was my last day to get on the bike before this weekend's JDRF mtb clinic.  Another stunning day for a ride.  I shot this pic at 17:30 just before leaving on my Superfly.

At 16:25 I set my tmp basal rate to a 70% reduction, and grabbed a quick 15g C snack, figuring I would be in good shape to start pedaling in an hour.

Drove to the UNC Wellness Center and got changed by 17:05.  I tested at that time, just as quick check, and was pretty annoyed to find myself at a 66.  Of course instinct would be to pound a large number of Cs as fast as possible.  I knew that this would be a short term gain, long term loss, as it would undoubtedly lead to me running high during the ride.

I just took in some more quick simple Cs via a soft drink, and then rolled out on the bike at 17:30 sharp. I stayed disciplined and kept to the regular 20-30g Cs per hour rate.  I did fall behind on the Nuun infused H2O, and only consumed 30oz for the ride.

I did some hill repeat work, before riding over to Keenan Stadium for some "extra curricular"  training.  Did a complete loop of stairs while carrying the bike CX style.

Once done here, I road over to Wilson Park to try a catch up with Greg Smith from the Tricyclists.   He had just returned from a trip to Columbus OH and I wanted to see how it went.

Was there for about 45 mins chatting, so I did a quick 1.25u bolus.

Once I got rolling again I put my lite on, and ripped through Forest Theater and back up Franklin Street, before heading back to the car.

As I was decending through Chapel Hill, I set my basal rate back to normal.

I have been struggling with my cycling shoes for a couple of weeks now, and they were completely acting up again tonight.  After new inserts, a cleat feet, new socks, and new pedals it is just time to hang these up.  They are good for 90 mins or so, but then turn ugly.  Hot spots, especially on the right foot.

Mission for tomorrow is to buy a new pair of the 'ole reliables'.  Hard to be an endurance cyclist when your shoes make you want to hang your bike up after 2 hours. ;(  I was really, really annoyed about this when I got back to the car.

BG was at a 67 at 20:24 when I finished up.  That bolus during the break was a hair to high.  Not bad though, considering.  It surely wasn't optimal, but if I was still going to be riding it is easier to fix, and less damaging, then say a 247.  LOL!

Want to give a shout to my friend and Crewmate Mark Carney as he heads to Utah tomorrow for a race this weekend. Giv'em hell.

Set my standard over night post ride temp basal of 75% when I hit the hay.

New shoes, and a meeting at school tomorrow.  Can't wait! :)

As it has been a TOPIC of conversation, here is a mock up of the new Trek 29er Crew kit:

At first I wasn't sure, but I dig them.  They will look GREAT in person.  Of course I will still rock the Fisher Crew kit as well.  Just can't give up the Sword.  :)

Thanks to ALL for the emails and phone calls today about the new Trek corporate alignment! A whole flurry of stuff going down in a bike hurry...

The members of the Fisher 29er Crew received an email this morning.

We are being reborn as the Trek 29er Crew! New kit is on its way, and our roles will be bigger (like the wheels!) and not smaller.

A quote from the letter we received... "We now have 8x as many retailers worldwide. We’ll now have 10x the consumer exposure. This is huge for Gary Fisher, the man & the brand, and it’s huge for further popularizing 29ers."

I for one am STOKED!!

Big wheels keep on rolling... right into a larger frontier...

Check out the new hardware and all the latest news at trekbikes.com. Man, I can't believe I just typed that...

Sweet!
