Got the last pieces of work done on the Superfly today. Small stuff like trim the bars, adjust shifters and brakes, and tune fork air pressure.

Took it for a 60 min. ride just to see... SRAM XX is money. :) Need to do fit details, and take it to Trek Raleigh to have excess brake housing shortened. Otherwise, it's good to go !!! :)

Had a little trouble sealing the rear Nano, but a second try seems to have fixed it up.

I also left the bars about 20mm wider to accommodate bar ends. I can always trim later right ?

Excited this it done. Can wait to go ride it!! Middle to end of this week??

So amped!!!

Big thanks to Trek and SRAM for helping me. I appreciate it!!!

Hello again. I am tuning in to give you an update on how the filming and technical logistics of TD for our good friend ,Tony are going. FAN-TAS-TIC.

According to the Twitter feed ( you can follow Tony on Twitter-- @type1rider) and his Facebook page, he and the documentary film crew, Taproot Films, are progressing at the speed of light. Filming took place all week, with some intense footage of the bike build ( yes, he is actually building his bike for Tour Divide) and some personal one on one footage from Tony himself on how he is getting prepared, now that the TD is within grasp. Supplies for the trip down the west coast are scantily in his possession, and he is anxiously anticipating the remainder of the bike parts, camping equipment and frame bags to arrive any day.

He is steadily working with his team of healthcare professionals to fine tune his insulin therapies, both standard and in an emergent situation, and also piecing together his nutrition plan.

Twitcast was super.  Keep the questions coming!!
Some pics of the crew of Taproot Films from our shoot on day 3 (or is it 4 now??):

Thank you much!!!!

Some of the items I need for Tour Divide came in today. This one item in particular is of premium importance:

April 25, 2011

Pulled this Tour Divide profile from the Adventure Cycling Association:

Hi all. I wanted to briefly say Hello and thank Tony for the opportunity to help out with his blog and to let you all know that my primary focus will be on the events leading up to and ultimately about the historic ride he is planning on Tour Divide. As you know, he is leaving for Canada early June and during that time, I will attempt to keep you all in the loop "here" as to his BG's and his experiences. It's gonna be a killer ride.

Many great things are happening at Type1Rider.org these days. Our friend is currently being followed by TapRoot Films, a documentary film company who are planning to literally follow him and his bike (and his diabetes) down the west coast. Once I get the information as to when they are releasing some teasers/trailers for the film, I'll  post the link. As you all know, it's a must see.

Another interesting happening is that there is a fantastic organization dedicated to securing funding for Type 1 Diabetics and their loved ones, AND they have contacted Tony and Type1Rider.org about his ride on Tour Divide ( and the million of other advocacy campaigns  he is affiliated with) and want to help him and anyone else out there who either want to donate money to perpetuate the breaking down of diabetic stereotypes or need assistance in overcoming barriers in their own lives. I intend to post their link as well.

Don't forget to check out Tony's Twitcasts here! Thank you again Tony for letting me be a part of Type1Rider.org. Keep Choppin'.

Training Hours: Ride: 06:45 Run: 00:00 Other: 00:00

Insulin Delivery Summary:
Daily Total: 39.19 units
Meal: 9.25u
Corr: 9.00u
Basal: 20.94u

Daily Carb Intake Bolused For: 112g

Today started at 9:00am with the arrival of the crew of Taproot Films to begin day one of the shooting of the documentary about Tour Divide.  These guys are fantastic and are bend on telling the story of a Type 1 diabetic attempting the longest mountain bike race in the world.  I cannot begin to express how much I appreciate their working on this project.  Thank you.

After we got some of the ride preparation captured, we headed over to the UNC Wellness Center so I could saddle up and get headed out.  I did set a temp basal rate of a 60% reduction at 10:00 (captured by Ish) and was on the bike right at 11:00.

We shot a LOT over the 8+hrs we were out, and I managed a quality 6.75hrs of training time on the new Superfly.

Taproot Films is looking to get the first teaser out in a short bit.  I can't wait, as this was a lot of fun.

On the way back to the car after 18:00 I set my basal rate back to normal.  BG was at 76 when I got back after 19:00, and I did a 3.75u post ride bolus to prevent the normal spike that occurs.  Burned 6180 calories while riding today.

When I finally got to bed I did set the customary 75% overnight post ride temp basal.

Thanks again Taproot Films!!

I have been graciously gifted with a volunteer contributor to the blog!!  This individual has a Type 1 diabetic as a family member, and will be helping with content, layout changes, and adding articles.  I am VERY grateful to have the help, and am grateful for the opportunity to have them help.

Thank you!!

We have made a questions@type1rider.org email address available as a way for readers and fans to get questions into Type1Rider.  If not answered by a reply email, they will be responded to via the newly implemented TwitCasting Live technology.

I will be be doing a TwitCast Live video each Sunday night at 10:00pm ET.  Other video feeds will be done as the need arises to highlight special events or features.

Follow the Live TwitCasting menu item at the top of the page, or the TwitCasting Live link to the Type1Rider page.

I look forward to brining other new features online soon.

Thank you so much for the continued support and all the kind messages and posts I receive.  I am under 60 days to go now until the start of Tour Divide, and they all personally mean a lot to me.

Thanks again!!
