Whew!!  Life is just plain moving at Mach 6 right now....

I have SO many balls in the air at one time, I truthfully starting to loose track of some of them.  It's been a tough couple of weeks on all fronts.  To be completely honest it all seems a little outta control with the schedule I have been trying to support.

Just like dealing with the "D", some days are easier than others.  No matter the drag or load you just gotta put your head down, push harder, swing stronger, and keep choppin'.   I just keep telling myself the verse from the song from Adele:

"The storms are raging on the rolling sea
And on the highway of regret.
Though winds of change are throwing wild and free,
You ain't seen nothing like me yet."

Keep choppin' wood - no matter what.  right?

On the event front, I will be attending and participating in the  JDRF Walk on April 16th in Charlotte, NC.  This is a fantastic event! Even if you can't make it that day, sign up to be a virtual walker and join in on this event.  A great time with a group of people united in one cause.

Some new Tifosi Optics sunglasses on the way thanks to my friends at Tifosi.  I REALLY appreciate it!!

Also, the new Countor HD GPS helmet cam is on its way.  Going to start using it and uploading videos to my YouTube channel to get some practice in for Tour Divide.  Not sure how it will work or look, but it will be a view into what I see (I think).  Hopefully not one of those "ground, sky, ground, sky, ground, sky, dust..." crashes.  LOL!!

From the bottom of my heart during what is a head twisting hectic time, thank you all so very much for the continued support and encouragement.  The "D" family has some incredibly strong bonds.

Y'all rock!!

Struggled with some highs today first thing, but still put in a very smooth enjoyable 4hrs on the Superfly.  Weather continues to be perfect, and I felt great today!

Ride end at 16:39 with a BG of 162 which is just a touch above the on bike target of 150.  I'll take it.  :)

At the gym by 06:00 for some strength work on the core and legs.  This has made such a big difference over the past couple of months... I haven't really done much weight training during the "season" over the past couple of year, and I wasn't sure how this was going to work out.  It has been awesome.  Legs feel great, and, this will all be a huge benefit when I am in the "hike a bike" sections of Tour Divide.

Woke up a little high this morning at a 195 (indication of decent post ride nutrition last night), but finished my workout at a picture perfect 106.

Slugged through another day at the desk... and prep'd for a 17:30 ride by setting a tmp basal of 60% an hour earlier.

Put in a great ride of approx 2hrs on the Superfly in 85F temps.  Not kidding.  Sorry.  :)

Nutrition was a little better today, as I took in a full custom mix 20oz bottle and a performance based protein bar during the ride.

BG at ride end was 95 right before 20:00.  Dealt a 3.5u post ride bolus to deal with the normal post ride BG spike that I always encounter.

BGs ran in the 79-121 range for the rest of the evening, and went to bed with a post ride over night temp basal of 85% of normal.

After a busy, but yet somehow unproductive day in the office, I set a temp basal of a 60% reduction at 16:31 while walking out of the office.  My BG was low, 57, so I took in some simple carbs w/ a little fat to back it up.  Figured to be on the bike by 17:15-17:30 on this 75F day, so there was time to effectively correct that.

Although I was supposed to stay in a base HR range (140ish), today I needed to let my hair (have you seen my picture? LOL) hang out.  Jumped on the Superfly Single Speed, and, according to my workout notes, "flat out attack of all dry trails and jumps in my Line Of Sight.  Laughed my head off for 2 hours".

Basically threw the workout plan in the trash.  Had a complete BLAST!!  A great ride!!

Headed back towards the UNC Wellness Center a tick before 19:30, and set my basal rate back to its normal rate.

Not a lot (read any) nutrition taken in during this ride as the pace was frantic.  I did consume one full 20oz bottle of my custom Maltodextrose / electrolyte mix.  About 25-30g of Carbs in that bottle.

Ride ended right before 20:00 and my BG was at 79.  Burned 1719cals and put in 1400ft of vertical.  Not ideal by any means, but an unbelievably wonderful ride anyway.

Also, got to rock the new full Trek 29er Crew kit today as well.  Always love that!!

Headed home to a treat - a dinner delivered all the way from the North East.  One of the kindest gestures I have ever received.  Thank You!

When I hit the hay, I set a standard overnight post ride temp basal rate of 75% for 6 hours.

Totally have spring fever.... these temps are so addicting.  Warmer weather coming :)

Most of us didn't know it at the time, but on this date in 1978 we were fortunate enough to have received a blessing.  We are all reminded of your spirit, your kindness, your generosity, your compassion, and your love for life each and everyday.

We know you are smiling on (and probably laughing with/at), us always.

You were, of course, right my good friend.... bikes can indeed change the world.

Happy Birthday TPG.
